- Arrival in Urbino, accommodation in a farmhouse on the hills adjacent to the city.Free visit of the city and its beauties inside the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (in particular we recommend Palazzo Ducale di Urbino, seat of the National Gallery of the Marche where you can admire some of the undisputed masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance such as the Flagellation and the Madonna di Senigallia by Piero della Francesca, the ideal city, by a still unknown author, the Portrait of a Gentlewoman known as La Muta and Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, both by Raphael.Urbino, the birthplace of Raffaello Sanzio, is one of the most important centers of the Italian Renaissance, of which it still fully preserves the architectural heritage; since 1998 its historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to one of the oldest and most important universities in Europe, founded in 1506.We suggest you dine at one of the typical restaurants in the historic center, where you can taste the famous crescia sfogliata, a very popular specialty already at the court of the Dukes of Urbino in the fifteenth century.
